Prof. Dr. Lorne Parnes

Dr. Lorne Parnes is the Medical Director of the hearLIFE Clinic Toronto. He is a Professor and past-Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology, and Professor of Clinical Neurological Sciences at the University of Western Ontario (UWO), London, Canada where he also served as chief of otolaryngology at both the London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care.

He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1980 and completed his otolaryngology residency at the University of Western Ontario in 1985. From 1985 - 1987, he was the first clinical and research fellow in Otology / Neurotology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

He was the recipient of the first Xomed-Poliquin national research award (1984), Canadian Society of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Honour Award (1996), Clinical Teacher's Award in Otolaryngology at UWO (1996, 2000, 2004) and AAO-HNS Distinguished Service Award (2012). He has published extensively and lectured internationally about the causes, mechanisms and various treatments of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).

He pioneered the posterior semicircular canal occlusion procedure, currently the surgical procedure of choice for intractable BPPV, and is renowned for his work on direct drug delivery implementation in the treatment of various inner ear diseases. While performing cochlear implants at London Health Sciences Centre since 1988, he has remained a dedicated father and husband, avid ice hockey devotee and piano enthusiast.
